In 1916, Autry Greer, founder of Greer's, opened a grocery store in the Northwest corner of Water and St. Michael Streets. This store was a pioneer in the Cash and Carry food store concept. Self-service soon followed and evolved to the modern supermarkets in operation nationwide today. The Greer's store at Water and St. Michael was the first and, for a long time, the only store in Mobile to advertise prices. These prices were the lowest in town because other stores sold on credit and delivered.

Now 5 generations later we are still owned by the Greer family and operate approximately 30 supermarkets in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. We love the food business and the opportunity it gives us to serve the people and communities around us.
